The Christchurch Call Advisory Network (CCAN) consists of not-for-profit organizations, and individuals from civil society, academia, and the technical community convened as part of the Christchurch Call. CCAN exists to provide expert advice on implementing the commitments in the Call in a manner consistent with international human rights law and a free, open, and secure internet.
In the spirit of commitment and accountability, CCAN conducted a pilot evaluation of ten Christchurch Call government and company supporters to ascertain how they were faring with the Call commitments and better understand how CCAN could support their efforts, and inform our ongoing development of a more comprehensive evaluation protocol. The evaluations were conducted by members of the CCAN community and consisted of a survey, discussion with supporters, and independent research.
After extensive deliberation, a CCAN majority decided to publish a high-level summary report containing recommendations for the Call leaders on our website. Individual evaluations were shared with the respective governments and companies for review and feedback. This was a pilot project designed to inform our efforts to shape a process for measuring impact. Call supporters who engaged did so voluntarily. As noted in the summary report, the evaluation found areas of progress and room for improvement for all supporter participants, and identified a number of recommendations for future evaluations to support the ongoing success of the Call.
The summary report was shared with all Call members ahead of the Leaders’ Summit in Paris, November 2023. For a more detailed description of CCAN’s pilot evaluation process and findings, please visit our website. CCAN is appreciative of our colleagues’ collaborative and consensus building approach to our projects.
